There are two types of Mediumship; Physical mediumship and Mental Mediumship is subjective while physical mediumship is objective. However both are ways of receiving evidence of eternal life from the communicating spirit helpers. I will briefly explain the differences between the two types.
Physical Mediumship - covers that which is done without physical contact. Levitation, apports, materialization, rapping's, and independent voice. The use of ectoplasm would be employed in some manifestations of spirit appearance. Ectoplasm would be taken from the physical medium and if necessary from the sitters. This type of mediumship takes years of sitting with dedication and patients and the sitters have to be dedicated also. You will find the physical medium would go into deep trance and they will not be aware of what is happening around them. This type of mediumship is extremely rare and it takes a special person to have these qualities.
Mental Mediumship - is communication of spirits with a medium telepathy. The medium mentally "hears" (clairaudience), "sees" (clairvoyance), and /or feels (clairsentience) message from spirit, then directly or with the help of a communion of spirit helpers, passes the information on to the recipient. When a medium is doing a "reading" for a particular person, that person is known as the sitter. The medium would provide evidence for the sitter, by the way of description, names, emotions and knowledge of recent events. Mental mediumship is commonly used to day by mediums; everything is through the mind of the medium.

Clairaudience - "Clear Hearing", is usually defined as the ability to hear the voices or thoughts of spirit. Some mediums hear as though they are listening to a person talking to them in their mind, as though the spirit is next to or near to the medium.
Clairvoyance - "Clear seeing", is the ability to see anything which is not physical present, such as objects, animals or people. This sight occurs "in the minds eye". Meditation helps to develop this ability. Some mediums see the spirit in the mind's eye, or it appears as a movie or a television programme.
Clairsentience - "Clear Sensing", is the ability to have the impression of what spirit wants to communicate, or to feel sensations instilled by spirit. Smells, taste, knowing feelings all come under this heading. I hope these brief explanations will give you some idea of the types of mediumship.
